Get to know us: the project to promote healthy aging

Active Aging is the process of optimizing health, participation, safety and training opportunities in order to improve the quality of life as people age.

In this sense, the age around 60 is especially relevant so that people can develop their life project for the coming years. The period between ages of 55 and 65 is key stage in training and decisión-making that will be relevant in aging.

Furthermore, in order to promote active and healthy aging, as defined by the World Health Organization, it is necessary for health systems to have a full life-cycle perspective and to focus on health promotion, disease prevention and equitable access to both primary care and quality long-term quality care.

In this context, the Regional Ministry of Health of Andalusia, through the General Secretary of Public Health and Consumer Affairs, leads the Project ‘Fostering active aging through digital solutions’. This Project is part of the Operational Program 2014-2020 (ERDF), and its main objective is the creation of a web space of reference for the promotion of active and healthy aging.

The objectives of this platform include:

  • Provide information, tools and advice on active aging to contribute to healthy decisión making.
  • Serve as communication space between citizens, professionals, associations and people interested in active and healthy aging.
  • Collect scientific evidence and good practices in active and healthy aging for dissemination.
  • Arrange training activities for professionals, specific groups, and/or citizens, that allow to promote the necessary skills for active and healthy aging.

 

Andalusia experience.

Andalusia has been developing relevant initiatives in this regard, among which are: “The White Book on Active and Healthy Aging”, the Public Health Law of Andalusia (Law 16/2011, 23th Desember), the IV Andalusian HealtIh Plan (PAS), which express mention is made of improving the health and well-being of people as they age. In addition, Andalusia has been recognised as a 4 Star Reference Site within the European Union for the application of good practices relative to active and healthy aging.
